Letter from the candidate to the citizens of NC House District 81
To the Residents of the 81st,
It is hard to
believe that it has been over a year since I was sworn in as the NC House
Representative for the 81st District. During the past year 1,731 bills were filed,
428 became law and 6 vetoes out of 14 were overridden. Republicans, who haven't had a majority in
the Legislature for over 100 years, were united in a pro-growth, pro-freedom
vision for NC.
I went to
Raleigh understanding these concepts among others:
- that no individual, business, or governmental entity can ever tax, spend or borrow its' way to prosperity
- that private property rights are one of the main foundations of our freedom and liberty
- that government does not create a single job, other than more government jobs, supported by the private sector
- that government can, through its' tax and regulatory policies, set the stage for economic growth
- that children, not special interests groups, should be the main focus of education policy
- that policies that encourage dependency are destructive to the individual
- that we have the right to make bad decisions, but must accept the consequences of those decisions
- that we have the right to protect ourselves from harm
- and that government serves us. We do not serve it.
For decades, NC government has sought to
impose its' will on us, and the results have been disastrous. It will take more than one year to turn this
great ship, which is our beloved state, around, but we have made good progress
in doing just that. So many of the laws
passed this year embody these ideals and principles.
I want every citizen in this District to
know what a privilege it has been to serve.
I have rarely cast a vote without thinking about the people of Davidson
County and have done my best to honor the commitments that I made to you.
